Hurry up TNT

TNT likes to take their time delivering my shiny white MacBook. Dammit they could hurry up! It’s in Holland currently, maybe it might be here for tomorrow. One can always hope. If not, Wednesday.

In other news I’ve only got 3 exams left! Woooop! Then it’s all over. Can’t wait. This summer is going to be amazing. Prom, Hungary, Reading, Amsterdam, then Uni. Just these few exams left, I’ll be revising intensly for them.

The iPhone 3G

So Apple announced the iPhone 3G on Monday at WWDC, which was to be expected, to be released on July 11. No-one was really surprised, though they obviously still clapped and cheered for Jobs. I don’t really know what to make of it to be honest. It’s a nice upgrade, but I’m still shocked they haven’t included Cut and Paste yet! I’ll have to try one out in person, but I don’t like the white colour at all, and the curviness of the back is not something that I’m too happy with.

My EDGE iPhone works perfectly fine, and I really don’t see myself upgrading anytime soon. You have to sign the contract at the store this time, obviously they’re trying to get around people jailbreaking it and unlocking it, though it’ll still be done. You could sign the contract and then cancel it, but you’d be charged with the early termination fee, and I doubt that’s cheap.

I can’t however wait for the iPhone 2.0 software. The App store looks great, and some of the games look amazing. Spore and Supermonkey Ball are perhaps the best, and from the others that Jobs demonstrated, it will definitely be worth will. At leasr it’s a free upgrade for iPhone users, $9.99 for the touch (which is due to legal reasons I believe).

I’m sad to see the camera’s still remained the same, and there’s no front facing camera either for 3G. That seems kind of a let down to be honest, the camera is perhaps the worst feature of the iPhone. There is Assisted-GPS in the phone, and TomTom have announced they’ve already got software made for it, so expect to see competing applications soon. This is definitely a feature I’d like in my iPhone, as the cell-tower location is just too flimsy, and it’d be nice to have in the iPhone, especially for walking and stuff. It probably does suck on the battery life quite a bit though.

Overall, it’s a nice device, but there’s still stuff lacking. O2 have priced it at £99 for the lower end contracts and free for the higher end contracts. It’s definitely an improvement over the previous price, but somehow I think they’ll make up that money (due to increased contract price and the contract details).

I haven’t posted in a few days, mainly because I’ve been enjoying the days off, as well as having to go into school (on the first two days as well) to revise Biology and Chemistry. I’m glad I went though, because I can assure you that I would not be revising at home during this time. I’d most likely be preoccupied infront of the TV or the Internet (watching the West Wing – hence the title of this post).

It was nice and weird being back in school again. I liked being able to leave at any time I wanted though. We had roast for lunch on Wednesday, which was lovely as always.

We got to pick up our Leaver’s Hoodies as well. They look absolutely awesome! You can see the reverse side above. The school logo is on the front, and I’m glad they chose the old school logo, it suits it much better, as well as showing the nostalgia during our time at BW. They were well worth the money, and I’ll enjoy wearing it to school and on results day!

In other news, I put Ubuntu on my sister’s old laptop, and it seems to be working fine. For a while it seemed to restart and never make it past the boot screen, so I took it apart and put it back together and it seems to have done the trick. I think the BIOS battery might have been a bit loose. I got WiFi working through ndiswrapper, it took far less time to get it running than I thought it would have. Sadly there are no visual effects, even the minimal ones don’t work. It is an aged machine, with the Video RAM taken from system memory so I can’t say I was too surprised.

I am getting a MacBook for University though, and after long deliberations with myself and the wider internet, I have decided to get a white one! ^_^ I think it looks far better and I think it would be unique as compared to the other black laptops out there. Plus this way we won’t have three MacBooks within the family. Luckily it seems I can get the educational discount with a conditional firm choice. My sister rang up and asked them, so I won’t have to wait until September to get it. Woop!

I have been around James’ house and I got to play on his PS3. I can say that the PS3 is as ugly as it looks, but the UI is nice, and I want GTA IV. That is one mad game, though I’m a bit skint on cash at the moment so it’s a no go for me, yet anyway.
